When I wasn't looking.

Some things have happened while I wasn't paying attention.

Apparently, my 2 year old has celebrated another birthday without me in the past 7 months. I remember planning a party for her second birthday in November, but how many is one little girl supposed to have in a year? I can't help but shake my head as I hear someone ask her, "And how old are you pretty girl?" to which she responds, "I'm free!" (which is Hailey for three) It's either that or she's trying to give herself away.

At one time or another, I have asked both my girls if they wanted to take gymnastics through the preschool that they currently attend. They both very enthusiastically told me in no uncertain terms -- NO! Periodically, Daddy or I will ask again only to receive the same response --NO! What prompts us to continue to ask is that our 5 year old comes home showing us the gymnastics moves from school. Now, mind you, we have still not enrolled her in the program.

I have never been quite sure where she is getting these moves until a few days ago when speaking with my good friend Mrs. TD. Apparently, my 5 year old has enrolled herself in the program. My girls and Mrs TD's children were attending Art Camp offered at our Church (also the place where my children attend school) When the day's activities were over, Mrs. TD needed to return Maddie to her classroom to finish school for the day. Mrs TD asked Maddie where her class was and Maddie responded saying something like "I'm supposed to be in gymnastics, but I don't feel like going because I'm not very good at it."

She's probably not very good at it because SHE'S NOT ENROLLED and SHE'S NEVER BEEN!!

And all this happened when I wasn't looking...

Ladies...this one's for you!

This came across in an e-mail from my younger sister. I'll just call it:

You want me to give up WHAT?!

I was walking down the street when I was accosted by a particularly dirty and shabby-looking homeless woman who asked me for a couple of dollars for dinner.

I took out my wallet, got out ten dollars and asked, "If I give you this money, will you buy wine with it instead of dinner?" "No, I had to stop drinking years ago," the homeless woman told me.

"Will you use it to go shopping instead of buying food?" I asked. "No, I don't waste time shopping," the homeless woman said. "I need to spend all my time trying to stay alive."

"Will you spend this on a beauty salon instead of food?" I asked. "Are you NUTS!" replied the homeless woman. "I haven't had my hair done in 20 years!"

"Well," I said, "I'm not going to give you the money. Instead, I'm going to take you out for dinner with my husband and me tonight." The homeless Woman was shocked. "Won't your husband be furious with you for doing that? I know I'm dirty, and I probably smell pretty disgusting."

I said, "That's okay. It's important for him to see what a woman looks like after she has given up shopping, hair appointments, and wine."

Friday Freebie

I stumbled on a website called Libra and I'm having an absolute blast with it! For the longest time, I have been telling my Hubby that we need to put together all our DVDs in an organized list so we know what we have and keep tabs on who's got which one. So when I found this site, I was excited to see not only can I catalogue my movies, I can even track who's borrowing them.

But wait!! That's not even the cool part. This program saves you from having to sit and type each movie title. Simply flip the DVD over and in the space prompted in your library (you do have to download some software) you input the barcode from the DVD case. Viola! The software pulls all the information you could ever dream of having (title, description, actors, rating, run time, etc...) into one organized place. It's so quick and virtually hassle-free that in a matter of minutes I had a stack of DVDs loaded into my library. I can even allow friends/family to view what is in my library in case they want to borrow one.

There's also good news for you bookworms...it'll track your books the same way. And for those of you music CD collectors who might not be into the iTunes or you "Gamers" this site is for you as well.

Be sure to check out this fun **FREE** organizational tool.

WOW Wednesday

I'll be trying a new post called Wild or Weird Wednesday (WOW Wednesday for short.) This will contain either something interesting that I ran across in daily life (which includes internet surfing) or something I saw on the news. It might just be something that made me say WOW!

Check out this video of something I caught on the news earlier this week. Some people really go above and beyond to save money on gas these days!

10 things I'm thinking on the 10th

In honor of the 10th of the month, I have composed a list of 10 things that are on my mind. No relation between them - perhaps mostly pet peeves that I needed to vent about, I'll start with a positive...

#1 Happy Hour Rocks
I'm addicted to Happy Hour. Not the "5 o'clock somewhere" Happy Hour at the local bar. Nope, it's the 2 pm to 4 pm Happy Hour at the local Sonic drive in! 96 cents for 44 glorious oz of Coca-Cola. And ooooh, the tiny little pebbles of ice! (Why am I not losing the baby weight?)

#2 Speaking of Sonic
They should fire their ad agency. Of course, so should Jack-in-the-Box, with the ridiculous large headed man. And why is Jack not in a box? Perhaps they should consult with Target on who they are currently using. Mesmerizing!

#3 Homeschooling is not what it used to be
Sorry, I always thought home schooled children were weird - I was wrong and I'm not ashamed to admit it. Not so sure I want to entrust my children to the public school system just yet.

#4 My kids have too many toys
Don't tell my husband, he'll be tossing half of the girls' stuff. They'd never forgive me. Instead, I'll just keep shifting it around. I have started the hide some and pull out others - It's almost like having new toys all over again.

#5 There are too many diets
I need to pick one (whatever I can do while nursing) and there are just too many to choose from. I've been reading a lot lately about diets and I just don't know which one to pick. What wonderful thing do I cut from my life: carbs, sugars, fats, soft drinks...?

#6 Soft Drinks
Why are they called soft drinks? What's soft about it? Some call them: Soda, Pop, Cola - well, whatever it is, I am sure it is rotting my insides...Why does it have to taste so good? I just need to drink more good ol' H2O.

#7 Exercise
Perhaps I'll start with exercise for weight loss. I know, those of you who know me are screaming at the screen, but it wouldn't hurt to improve my health. Especially the cardio - besides, there is no cure for Asthma and my breathing should improve as I walk, run, bike, etc.

#8 Asthma
Why isn't there a cure for Asthma? Why isn't there a special 'walk for the cure' for Asthma. I mean, Asthma can be life-threatening too. Oh well, at least I can walk for improved cardio.

#9 I/Me/Myself
What drives me bananas - probably more than any other grammatical snaff-o is the use of I, me and myself. Good rule of thumb, 'I' goes at the beginning and 'me' goes at the end. (that was almost hard to type it sounded so awful in my head) 'myself' - I just don't use this one unless to say "I'll do it myself" When there are other people listed in the sentence along with the word 'I' or 'me' I drop their name from the sentence and if it sounds bad, it's probably wrong! I work with professionals - these people have college degrees and yet, they insist on using the word 'I' all the while neglecting 'me' Poor me...poor pitiful me!

#10 Their/They're/There
Is the proper use of their, they're and there really THAT hard? I mean, let's go over this together: THEIR (pronoun - as in a possessive form of they) i.e. it is their house; THEY'RE (a contraction of the words 'they' and 'are') i.e. they're coming over later; THERE (okay, this one could be several things, pronoun, adjective, noun, adverb) i.e. there it is, OR I put it over there - perhaps this is where it gets more tricky. OR maybe it's all neither here nor there.

Seriously...?!

Okay, I have GOT to find new things to say! Obviously, I repeat myself waaaay too much. In fact, this past weekend I learned just how much.

So, I'm sitting on the couch and I look over at my sweet little 2 1/2 year old and notice that she has moved from one set of toys to a new one. In my attempt to try to persuade her to clean up the toys she appears to be done with, I say to her, "Hailey, before you start playing with your Aquadoodle, you need to pick up your baby dolls." To which she calmly looked at me and replied:

"I am serious!"

After that, I really had a hard time being serious.

Lesson learned: Perhaps I should find ways to show my children I am serious and then I won't have to tell them "I am serious!"

Bonus tidbit: My kids DO listen to what I say.
